Detox & Weight Loss
Feeling stuck? Understanding hormones, gut health and correct detox are all part of the weight loss equation.
Carrying around any extra 10 to 20 pounds that you just can’t seem to shake?
Are you feeling discouraged because you are eating right and exercising more, but can’t budge those numbers on the scale?
Feeling down because you just don’t “feel fit” (and your clothes don’t fit) even though you are putting in time to care for yourself?
There could be several factors blocking your weight loss efforts that have nothing to do with “calories in, calories out” and how much you workout.
The Importance of Proper Detox
There is a mind-boggling amount of environmental toxins impacting your body each and every day. Our environment has become incredibly polluted over the last 50 years. When you pair this with stealth infections and digestive problems, it’s a recipe for disaster when it comes to your health.
We are exposed to many man-made chemicals (so-called xenobiotics) in medications, beauty products, cleaning supplies, pesticide residues in foods…We need enough vitamins, minerals and other nutrients to allow for proper detox!
If your body can’t flush away the toxins, they accumulate in your body and affect hormone balance, digestion, joint health, and brain function.
If you’re dealing with these ailments you’ll probably be offered medication which addresses your symptoms but doesn’t address the root cause of your chronic dis-ease – merely adding to your toxic load!
Detox During Weight Loss
Proper detoxification support is also key when undergoing any weight loss, because many fat-soluble toxins (stored in fatty tissues) get released and need to be dealt with.
Yet weight loss plans oftentimes don’t support the three phases of detox to allow your liver and other organs to metabolize and excrete xenobiotics – and that’s one of the reasons why many people don’t feel any better after a standard juicing plan.
Plus, conventional weight-loss wisdom also doesn’t take your gut health, hormone balance, and sleep patterns into account to achieve optimal results.
Each person has unique health challenges and may be suffering from specific imbalances that might be blocking weight loss. Thus, there is no “one diet fits all” plan.
Finally, genetic factors also plays a role in how “healthy” some foods are for your body. This is why some dieting styles work well for people and not for others. Bio-individually has to be taken into account when using food as medicine!
Stuck and Can't Lose Weight?
In my practice, I find that a patient’s hormonal balance and gut health are some of the key components that can block weight loss.
If your thyroid isn’t performing well or you are storing estrogen, this can account for “unexplained weight gain” or inability to loose weight.
You may have been told you are in the “normal range” when your thyroid is tested, only to discover later that those markers are just an “average range” and may not be your optimal range.
When it comes to weight loss, how healthy your gut microbes are can make all the difference! The bacteria that make up your microbiome help digest your food, protect your immune system, fight harmful bacteria and viruses, and produce important nutrients like B12, thiamine (B1) and riboflavin (B2).
Too few of the “good gut” bacteria can cause you to gain weight because of the way they process your calories. You may have too many of the unfriendly bacteria or an overgrowth of yeast which can create a toxic and inflamed state in your body, signaling it to “hold on” to fat and triggering other stress responses.
If you’re trying to lose weight without addressing underlying digestive and hormonal imbalances, it can be next to impossible.
